LABELS
Words by Cian Ring
Identity
To me identity is being brave, courageous and brazen. Being brave enough to say you are who you are, having the courage to stick to you and being brazen enough to never feel ashamed of who you are.
I struggle to meet all my own criteria for identity. I am afraid to say I’m a creative and I want to make art in some form. I felt this most while working a call center job. I felt my identity was being drained away because I didn’t think I would escape that job and ever make something again.
I told this to a very excellent friend who told me to go home and make absolutely anything at all. At this time, I had lyrics from a Hobo Jonson song stuck in my head:
“On a day that’s not so far, you’re gonna hear about me whether you like it or not”
I took my friend’s words and those lyrics and made a video with me. As a reminder for myself to be brave, courageous and brazen. To create and be me.
My own version of “A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man”
Some days I’m all three. Some days I’m not.
