My illustration of a vixen and her cub on the Ha'penny Bridge in Dublin nods to a photograph taken by the Gardai during lockdown last year of a lone fox.

There's been a lot going on this year with people interfering with animal mothers and their babies, like the DSPCA having to issue a statement telling people to stop taking ducklings away from their parents to sell for a fiver to children and the Gardai 'rescuing' a young deer from Phoenix Park who was perfectly fine whose mother had only left it for a minute. We need to admire the parental love of animals for their young from a respectful distance!
